Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:8-9


The apostle Paul here is telling us that we can change our minds if we're not feeling good. Here are some things to think about:

Into Your Life

1. Are you naturally more optimistic or pessimistic? How do your moods affect your outlook?

2. How does this challenge here from the apostle Paul, who wrote this letter, help us to take control of our moods and emotions?

3. How in touch are you with the way you think? How much conscious effort have you put into changing the way you think?

4. What changes in your thinking do you want to make, starting today?

5. Take each category Paul mentions and list other specific things on which you need to focus your mind.

For me, here's the breakdown...

TRUE: God's word, heaven will be greater than I can ever imagine,

NOBLE: integrity, honesty, service, loyalty, perseverance, humility, grace, mercy

RIGHT: God's commands, forgiveness of sins, Jesus is the only way

PURE: God's love, the love from my daughter

LOVELY: the intimacy of marriage, my wife's smile, my wife's voice, sunrise and sunset, rainbows

ADMIRABLE: faithfulness through hard times, humility

EXCELLENT: God's creation, the intricacies of the human body - physical, mental, and spiritual, the universe

PRAISEWORTHY: a changed life for God, doing what is right even though it is hard, perseverance
